Slow response on mouse right-click

A curious problem for you all! I have a Windows NT SP6 machine that works fine in most instances - except when I right click on any desktop item it takes a long time to bring up the menu - up to 40 seconds. When I remove the network from the system then the right click response becomes immediate. There are no services not starting, no messages in Event Viewer, nothing seems to be unusual apart from the right mouse clicks. The network is set up with a Novell client (4.8) and TCP/IP - using a DHCP server. I have logged into the machine using workstation only. Any help would stop me ripping out what remains of my hair....

Tried that one, with no effect - but have just found that there is a later Novell cleint available - I have 4.8, there is now a 4.9 - I will try it and tell what the effect is.

Take a look at HKCR\*\Shell\ Anything odd ? Also look at HKLM\Software\Classes\Folder\shell\ Or file\shell etc.

Clarifying, make sure that everything pointed to by the \shell\command\ actually point to an existant file ... goes off looking or gives up. Everything you see on rt clk has one of these and they all should be vaild.

Thanks for all your advice folks, but it was the Novell client that was causing the problem - with the new one (v 4.9) on there it was back to having right click menus appearing almost immediately.
