I knew that it was possible to shell swap 98/ME with 95 by changing the files comdlg32.dll, shell32.dll and explorer.exe. But I had never heard of doing it with XP or 2000. For fun, I tried replacing the shell of Win 2000 with that of NT 4.0. It works perfectly. And going even further, would it be possible to give NT 4.0/2000 the interface of 3.1 by swapping files from NT 3.51? I'm almost 100% sure it's possible in some way, just how I don't know!

I am curious as to why would you want to.

The 95/NT 4.0 shell is much faster than the webby explorer shell, especially on older computers. The XP shell is even more bloated and slower.

Did you notice a major speed improvement with the NT 4.0 files on 2000? I'm very interested now. I really need to set up an NT 4 computer to grab the files off of!
