Subject: Sharing folders in NT4
Comment:

I have a small network for student use with a PDC running NT4 SP6a. The problem is that when I load NT Explorer and right click a folder then select sharing, I enable sharing and set a share name but as soon as I click apply the sharing disappears. If I bring up a command prompt and type: NET SHARE I can see the shares that are set ok but in Explorer it won't show the little hand against the folder name. Also the default chare on whole drives i.e. C$, D$ & E$ keep disappearing too! I've checked that the server service is started ok. If anyone has any suggestions as to what to try next I'd be most obliged.

I know that folders with a $ are hidden shares but that's not the problem. When I select a folder and set sharing on and give it a shared name and click apply the sharing is immediately turned off. I have ovecome the problem of the shared drives (C$ D$ etc) keep losing their shared staus, it was down to unchecked fields in policy editor. But the problem of sharing individual folders still occurs in that you share it and the sharing appears to be taken off but when you go to a command prompt and type:
NET SHARE the shares are reported.
