I want to be able to set up an NT 4.0 server with 2 NICs so I can have my static IP DSL line goto a web server, and that same server act as a proxy / file server for my small LAN. I plan to use NAT and DHCP to distribute IPs to my other machines... can anyone offer me real world advice on how to get this accomplished? Right now I am having problems with getting the 2 NICs to work in the same machine... I keep getting errors... ranging from IRQ conflicts to forcing a new domain.

I have the server set up as a Primary Domain running service pack 5.

Please help... thanks.

first of all you have to make sure you are using PCI network interface card if both the card r of same time it will be very good.
Second you should configure 1st NIC and see how it performs is there any conflict , if this works okay then install another NIC.
now after both the cards r runing okay try to ping between these two cards , ip test.
then u need to install "rip for ip" or "ip forwarding" then proceed with your other installation.
i hope this will help u

A static ip address is the best way to go if you can for winnt. Try not to change the DOMAIN name as this can be harmful to your domain after installation. the static ip address will also let you set up a dns server which you will need. The two nic cards the same manufacture is good idea, one with static address and the other private address. Check nic cards for manual irq settings and install one at a time. after first install nic use the internal 127.0.0.1 ping address to see if its working properly. you might also check microsofts HCL hardware compatibility list to see if either nic card is not listed as compatible and with first card in see which irq's are still available. good luck.

I've found that wether it be laptop w/ docking station, workstation or server, If you're using two nic's in/for the same unit then it's best to give each nic it's own ip address.
