The following services fail to start on my NT 4.0 (SP5) machine. Any idea how to fix the problem? Thanks.

---------Event log excerpts follow----------

The NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport Protocol service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

The NWLink NetBIOS service depends on the NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport Protocol service which failed to start because of the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

You probably have to remove the whole protocol and reinstall it.

It sounds as if you had removed the IPX of Netware protocol and still are trying to load the NWLink service.

You you are not connecting to a novell server I suggest going into your network properties and remove offending services

Just a thought .. although deinstalling and reinstalling the protocol may well work, the most common cause of this problem that I have seen is the sysadmin failing to reinstall the Service Pack after adding a protocol from the main CD. This causes no end of problems, and will often cause the machine to fall over at random times.

Well, I've tried all that because I have an identical error problem on Dell Precision 220 W/ NT4.0 and SP5. And that still does not solve the problem. It is bizarre..but what *IS* this file that can't be found???? and Is there some way I can simply install that particular file???
