I have an ASUS P2B mother board with two IDE 33Mhz ports :

- On first one, I have connected a pair of IDE hard disks
- On second one, I have connected a DVD reader and a CD burner

On a PCI slot, I have a SCSI adapter (Adaptec AVA 2904) to which I used to connect a perfectly functionning 18 Gb HDD via a 68 pins to 50 pins connector.

I've just had an opportunity to replace it by a 75 Gb HDD via the same 68 to 50 pins connector (I know this high speed SCSI HDD is not used at its top capability, but it's just a question of opportunity).

Generally speaking, it works fine, but from time to time, when using the Explorer to copy large series of files (e.g. hundreds of jpeg pictures) from SCSI HDD to master IDE HDD, the system slows down and appears to lock up for some seconds, before resumming the files tranfer.

I've managed to improve the situation using EZ-SCSI to disable the SCSI HDD read caching feature, but for some unknown reason this fix doesn't last after some manipulations and reboots the problem occurs again.

Did someone already face similar issues, and what kind of fix can be suggested ?

Thank you for your help. Best Regards.

Hi Franchy,

The same thing happens on w2k, IDE to IDE.

I don't know of a fix. I think it's just winders being winders.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
