scandisk and defragmenter

i cant get the scan disk and defragmenter to work. they start and stop the scan disk shows 2 bars. then it finally comes on and says it started 10 times so i know it doesnt work. i know i have files missing or out of order but cant find it. can you help me. thank you
Since NT doesnt come with either of those... what 3rd party utilities are u using...?

Looks like you are using Win9x.
Have you converted to FAT32 ? That can slow down Scandisk and Defrag considerably.
Make sure the screensaver is not active (set it to none). Disable any background process -- like virus scanner. Do not run any other program/software while running Scandisk / Defrag.
Make sure other programs arent running. each new write to the disk may make scand or defrag start over....

I have windows 98 and Internet explorer 5.5. I receintly lost my ability to run scandisk and defrag. I have shut down all other programs. Even removed all tray items. I start defrag, the window comes up asking what drive. I choose C and then hit OK and it freezes up my computer. I have a 10G hard drive with 7.97 free. Is there a place you can go to download scandisk and defrag to fix any missing components? What can I do?
