Diskeeper by Executive Software distributes the NT version of Defrag. It works as smoothly as Defrag works in Windows 95, and it has some additional features that are pretty nifty. Just make sure you never shut down your system while Defrag is running. If you have a multi-gigabyte disk, don't be surprised if the defragmentation process takes a good part of a day (or night). You will certainly want to reboot after installing it and before running it on your disk(s). I also strongly recommend that you reapply any service pack, or upgrade your system to the next higher(even numbered) service pack. Check out this link:

Executive software also has offices, and no doubt distribution channels, across the pond from Indonesia in Hong Kong and in Taiwan. Your system (browser) may be set up to read Chinese characters. Mine is not.

As for Scandisk, Microsoft has this message posted about using scandisk on NT:

executive software is owned by scientology.
Norton Speedisk works better.
If you have big disks, do defragging during the night and/or weekend.

Try the latest version of Speedisk (one of the utilities in Norton Utilities 2001)for free at:

http://software.symantec.com/dr/v2/ec_dynamic.main?cat_id=7&pn=16&sid=27674

I've used Speedisk for NT before, and found Diskeeper to be superior. But I haven't used the most recent version, and I am prepared to defer to Blumini's judgement in this matter.

If you try them both, you'll be the expert on this subject.
