Hi, can anyone tell me how I can restrict users from changing the display setting in NT 4 from the registry. Thanks.

Deny Access to the Display Settings (Windows 9x and NT)
This option disables the display settings control panel icon, and stops users from accessing any display settings.
Registry Settings:
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
Value Name: NoDispCPL
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Hi, Thomas, thanks for your quick response. If I am right, your way is good for a (one) user only, what if I have more than ten users sharing one machine. How can I set the registry once and retrict ALL users from changing the display setting in NT 4.0.

Ever used the tool poledit.exe?
It's the system policy editor. You can add group policies for an entire network.

Larry's right.
Run from your PDC. You can make changes to your entire domain at the registry level from this tool.

On another subject: Setting up printer
I am using System Policy Editor and user profiles in a NT client/server environment using NT workstations and 98/95 clients.
I install a printer for a user on a client and when another user logs on to the same the printer is not available for that user.

Q. How can I install the printer once on a client computer so that it is available in all user profiles?

I need help with allowing my users to change their passwords. I set the permissions to "Allow user to change password" but they are still not able to. Help please. I started this job and really need to get this issue resolved! Thank you.

Using the Registry/Policy Editor is not 100% effective. We restrict the display properties using the policies, but users can still change their wallpaper using Paintbrush and Internet Explorer (File, Set As Wallpaper option). Does anyone have any ideas how to stop this?

To prevent users from permanently changing settings, you have to locate the file ntuser.dat in the users profile and rename that to ntuser.man. This creates a mandatory profile. The user can change settings beut they will be restored when he logs off an then on again.
