Subject: restoring a SCSI OS to an IDE OS with NT
|
Comment: I am trying to do a test restore in case a server fails and we must use available hardware at hand. I have restored an NT server from a dual processor to a single processor system with success. Now, the problem I have is I get the error Inaccessible_Boot_Device at boot. This I believe is from the restore of an OS that is bootable from a SCSI controller to a box that now boots from an IDE drive. How do I configure the OS to boot as normal from the IDE drive?

Reply: (edit)Install the IDE services on the SCSI system but disable it, then do am image. If you have to restore the image to an IDE system you can boot and enable the IDE and disable the SCSI.

Reply: (edit)Thank you for the reply Sterling. The problem I am having is running the restored image from IDE drives. I have changed the boot.ini file to the correct boot partition, but the blue screen error after the boot loader screen indicate that this is a SCSI boot error problem. The problem with 'switching to IDE after boot' as above is that I can't even boot into the OS to make the switch to an IDE system. I am heading in the path to try to change the boot to select IDE drivers rather than SCSI drivers (by booting into a different OS with this drive viewable as a secondary). The documentation on this is scarce to say the least. Any feedback is most welcomed. Regards, Arnold
