Seriously,
Is there ANY way to completely wipe out an NTFS partion (containing NT) with an extended partion contation NTFS logical drives?FDISK does not see NTFS logical drives in an extended partition, and simply ignores their presence.
Therefore FDISK will not allow the extended or the primary to be deleted.I am not so familiar with the workings of NT. Is there another solution. loosing data is not a problem, and I can live with my current partition setup. I just need a to completely reload winnt.
There has GOT to be a way.Much thanks for your help,
Matt

I assume you aren't running a hardware RAID, because if you are you should be able to use the RAID software to delete the partitions.
However, if you have individual disks than this is kind of a scary to do what you are asking, and some times it takes an annoyingly long time but it works.
When you do a basic install of NT, it asks you to partition the drives. (If you are using the three floppy disk method, this happens around disk 3) At this point you have the option of dropping and reformatting all of your partitions, including the primary partition. However, simply deleting and recreating the partitions here does not truly wipe out NT and we have had problems with corrupt DLLs after a supposedly "Fresh" install of NT.
So what I do is I wipe out the partitions, recreate only the primary partition (I never create other partitions during the install process, I use disk administrator after I have installed the most recent Service Pack). I let the partition start to format, then I hit the power button (thats the scary part).
Now you will have to go start the install process all over again but you can be sure that everything is wiped out. It will usually say that the C: partition is damaged or corrupt. I just drop the C: partition and the recreate it and reformat it. (A couple of times I have to reboot again before it lets me reformat the C: drive)
That should do the job

As you've discovered Fdisk will NOT remove extended area NTFS - but will remove primary area NTFS...
To remove NTFS partitions in general...
Run the 3 install flopppies and opt to delete partitions at the appropriate moment...
Or:
Download < Delpart.exe > and use that - it will delete just about any partition...
http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu/download/MSSTUFF/index.htm
is where to find it; (parent site is http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu)
It fits on a floppy - about 30K..
Also if NT is still installed, you can remove Extended area NTFS from within NT via Disk Admin... and then remove the Primary NTFS if there is one using Fdisk from DOS 5x or later, and with Fdisk from '9x.
Good luck...

LM-S YOU CHAMPOIN!!!!!!!
YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!

THAT PROGRAM IS THE BEST RAPIST FOR ANY PARTITION!!!! TRY IT PEOPLE!
