Comment:

A user without admin priviledges in Win NT tried to install a program, didnt like it and then uninstalled it. however, the uninstall didnt work properly and everytime I startup I get the message...

"cannot find c:\program"

how do I remove startup programs that arent in the startup folder? Where is it in the registry?

Any help at all would be appreciated, thank you!

This is an entry in the registry not a
directory. Run Regedit (Start/Run) and open
the hive HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Then click thru
SOFTWARE - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion until you get to "Run". On
the right hand side you'll see all Files
listed which are executed each time you
log onto your machine.

HOLD IT! Before you go messing with the registry check the startup folder manually to make sure the program didn't leave a shortcut there. Then before you EVER go into the registry back it up using rdisk

If you would have read the first message,
you would have seen that he has already
checked his startup folders.

I have ran into almost the same problem.
A user without admin priviledges log onto my NT box, when this person did so, it started a SMS down load and install of Lotus Notes to upgrade what was on my NT box from Ver.4.5 to Ver. 5.5.

So, here is my problem:

I can boot up my NT box to the logon screen and log in, BUT when everything in my startup folders and in the registry, "RUN" statement starts to load up the programs, the hole system locks.

Is there a way of bypass the Startup under "NT", like you can under "95" by holding down the "shift" key.

Any help at all would be appreciated, thank you!

open up your tower and get a good pair of pliers. you're also going to need a good flashlight. when you see the manila folder that says "startup progs" your going to take the pliers and gently pull until the light in the corner of the folder goes out. STOP! so far, so good. now you're going to have to remember that the bits and bytes that make up the folder are very brittle when disconnected from the power source, so when you pull the folder all of the way out, be very careful not to shatter it. once you have it all of the way out, open it with morse code by flashing "opening sesame" with the flashlight. when it's open, simply remove the offending programs and it's all good in the neighborhood, y'all.
