Have recently acquired second hand 4.3g hard disk and fitted to PC. I want to install Win95 but have discovered NT on the disk. Can it be removed, how do I create a Dos boot partition??? I realise this may be simple but I am lost. Please help!

Yes! you are going to have to create 3 nt boot disks,
how? = 1)find i386 folder 2)run the command
"winnt32.exe /ox" (if it doesnt do anything youre going to have to browse from the run command. and find "system32 file ........
once disks are created boot from the first one and follow instructions as if you were going to install but when it comes time to create and delete partitions, you can do anything format in fat or ntfs .............

As Peter advises, if you can obtain/create a set of install/set-up disks (3 in all), you can remove NT (and any/all other partitions) that way; then using a DOS/'95 boot-disk you need to replace/overwrite the NT boot-loader (otherwise you'll still get the NT boot-menu).

At the a:>\ prompt (from a DOS/9x boot-disk) type:

" sys c: " (not " ") and then press Enter.

Then run Fdisk (off a DOS/'9x boot-disk) to set (configure) the HD as you wish it to be.

Also:

Using Fidsk you can inspect partitioning before you start.

If you have only one partition on the HD be it FAT16 (possibly - upto 4Gig) or NTFS which Fidsk will list as a non-DOS partition - you can remove it using Fdisk; then reconfig/format the HD as you wish.

Note: 'If' by chance you have a non-DOS (NTFS) partition in the Extended partition area, Fdisk wil NOT remove it (NTFS); revert to the set-updisks routine. Otherwise use the delpart.exe util - which 'will' remove just about any partition - permanently.

Freebie download = 30K max - from:

http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu/download/MSSTUFF/index.htm

(parent site: http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu)

was part of NT3.51 resource Kit, omitted from NT4 RK.

Afterwards run Fdisk to reconfigure HD; also run the " sys c: " routine...

Install OS.

(In some ways you may find using the delpart.exe util the easiest option?)
