Reinstalling Windows NT

I'm trying to reinstall Windows NT and was advised to remove the partitions. Now, when I boot with the WinNT disk in the drive and get to the list of existing partitions, there's of course only one, the C drive. It says this is Unformatted or Damaged. I believe the hard disk is 12Gigs but I'm not totally positive, I'm sure it's bigger than 7Gigs though. When I attempt to create a partition by pushing C, nothing happens at all. When I try to just install, I get the message that it will be formatted. When I accept this and choose an NTFS partition, I get the error "Setup cannot format the partition because it is too large." I'm stuck and a little deperate. Any assistance would be great but I might need some detailed instructions. Thanks in advance!

the original partition appears to still be there because you said "there's of course only one, the C drive" when you get to that same page press d to delete then press c to create, however nt4 wont partition any more than 4gigs unless you have service pack 4 or higher atapi.exe! Post back with results!
