I have 98 lite, NT4 WS, NT4 WS and W2k on their own partitions. Now when i tried to reinstall the second NT4 WS W2k-ntloader denies to run forward nt install/upgrade after booting, after a few seconds it only rolls back to menu?

According to M$... you can't install NT4 after installing W2K... without reformatting the partition involved...
It seems that W2K puts NT4 into a maintenance mode...(?) during the installation of W2K...
For a more detailed (informative/better qualified) explanation, visit:

from the Win2000mag.com site
The actual info you need is on the second page...
This is the June issue of the magazine.
However...
http://www.ntfaq.com/Faq.cfm?FaqID=514
from http://www.ntfaq.com - Installations section (John Savill's site) offers a possible solution...
I do find myself wondering if there is another workaround...
Possibly:
1) FIRST… Make the ERD for W2K.
2) Run < sys c: > from a DOS boot-disk (or maybe a ‘9x variety).
3) Then, using the NT4 install disks see if it’s possible to either ‘upgrade’ the current version, or achieve a parallel installation of version of NT 4? If either can be achieved, then after confirming it’s OK, run the ERD for W2K?
My thought behind this is that by dis-abling the W2K boot-loader, and then running the NT 4 installation, you are, in effect, starting out as though there is no OS installed… and so the NT (re-)installation may be able to go ahead as ‘normal’.
Ideally it would be good to have a back-up of the W2K installation etc. before starting out…
I haven’t tried this – have yet to actually install W2K; that’s on the list for the near future…
On the other hand John Savill's route may be the better option...
Also be aware of these two M$ articles; more for general info than any other reason...

Good luck...

did you install service pack 5 or 6 before upgrading to W2K? the problem could be the file system. nt4 uses ntfs4, after service pack 5 or win2k it uses ntfs5. nt4 until sp4 cannot handle ntfs 5 and so installation fails. what you can do is split your nt partition (e.g. using partition magic 5) and create a fat partition to install nt4 to. at setup you chose to convert fat to ntfs. you won't be able to see the rest of the old installation until you upgrade the service pack.
