I'm wanting to setup an e-mail system for a small office of about 12 people. Should I just install exchange server and be done with it, or what other alternatives might I investigate. The system will need to run on Windows and allow users to access their mailbox from anywhere in the world.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Anywhere in the world. Install exchange 5.5 and IIS to enable outlook web access.

MS exchange server in conjunction with back office but watch out for problems connecting remote users. The other problem is having sufficient telephone lines to meet the demand

You should also look into hardware called a Team Internet Box. For a small office it's Ideal. Go to their site http://www.apexxtech.com/
With one ISP 28.8 dialup acct. for $20 bucks a month I'm able to setup and manage over 50 email accts. They have different flavors of hardware. You should look into it.

I would also recommend VPOP. You can check them out at www.vircom.com.

As with Alain, I have one ISP account and operate about 20 email accounts.
