I work in a school. The administration is considering changing our operating system to Windows NT. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of Windows NT over other operating systems?

pro:
stable, reliable, quite easy to install and to maintain.

contra:
expensive licenses
scanner, cd-burner are hard to find
no USB support
it was released in 1996
if you want more than file and print services, the M$ products are quite expensive

If you want something modern, think about Linux or Win2k.

If you read across the forums, you wíll see that every OS has it's little problems.
I use Linux and NT, and for the scanner/cd-burner/notebooks Win9x.

Janet...Blumini is correct...Linux is great for use as servers, but not so good as computers for the users...There aren't too many applications for Linus yet, but that will change over the next few years...
NT is more stable, and with many students trying to crack into the computers, it is much more security capable...
If you're buying new computers, or upgrading older ones, then I would definetly use Windows 2000 rather than NT...Hope this helps...Steve
