Go to the Server manger (start menu/administrative tools/ serverger manager)

There select the name of the stand-alone server, and then go to the Computer menu, and Click "Promote to Perimary Domain Controller"

NOTE: That option only works where there is no other PDC in the domain.

You installed this system as an NT4 (stand-alone) Server?

Stand-alone server cannot be promoted to PDC... BDC can be promoted.

Re-install sever as a BDC; synchronise its data-base to PDC; and then you can promote it.

There is a piece of software called UPROMOTE that will take a member server and turn it into a BDC. It is the only software utility that can promote your NT server to an NT domain controller without re-installing the operating system.
