Hi

I have a "small" problem with one of my printservers...

We have recently replaced the existing printserver (also BDC) with a new one. The new one now has the same networkname and IP as the old one had. The switch was made like this: Shutdown the old one rename the new with the old ones name and IP. Ever since this switch was made we've had both small and bigger problems with print on this server.

This time when clients print to one specific printer installed on the server the get a blue screen (dump of memory) and a reboot.

I have observed that in the registry (on the clients) there are references to the printer on the old printserver (I can see this because on the old server it was a different printer). I believe these registrykeys should be automaticly changed but for some reason they are not!!

The new printserver doesn't either present it self in the browse-printer dialogbox. The server is listed as a normal machine (in the bottom of the browse window) - eg. it doesn't have the two backslashes in front of the name!!!

Can anyone help me on this one...what could be wrong? How could I reinstall the printservices on this server?

Kind regards

Siv

Hi
you've made a new computer ID and the old one's still registered with the netbios to IP of the old computer ID so it's preventing the current new computer to register, I'm guessing you're using WINS most likely, delete the mapping in WINS.

Hi again

Sorry I don't see why this should help? Could you elaborate a little?

Kind regards

Siv
