Hi all,

I've been looking for the driver for my 3COM network card and finally got it but after the installation it seems to me there are still some problems because the system hangs up after the command "press Ctrl+Alt+Del" appears...
My colleague which is IT Manager in my company told me it happesns frequently with the 3Com Etherlink cards :-( and suggested to change the IRQ number. But how can I get to it now?
NT doesn't have any special tools and access to it is also hidden for the user.
The driver was 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 PCI NIC (3C905C-TX).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your support!

I have already checked the motherboard with integrated network card with the 3com detection software and it says it is the 3C905C-TX card with Interrupt level: 10

This answer is based on NT4 as you do not state what version!

That is usual for a NIC, it is possible to re-assign IRQ, but is not advisable, providing you have ADMIN access.

I would check the BIOS of this PC and DISABLE/NO the ENTRY for Plug'n'Play O/S, and also disable any USB entries. Also ensure if you have any non P'n'P ISA cards they are set there own IRQ

I believe you need to undertake some moere reading as NT4 has auto-detection of NIC Wizard, NT4 is not a Plug'n'Play O/S and have to inform it that it has additional hardware.

The 905's need to be installed from a DOS prompt. You'll need a floppy disk with the drivers. Restart the computer and run the 3c90xcfg.exe.

You shouldnt have to install from a dos prompt, I've installed hundreds of 905a/b/c's in Windows and they normally dont cause many problems at all. What SP level are you on and do you have an av running? If you still have issues, post back and I may be able to e-mail you the driver you need
