I am trying to set up a network between two computers in my house using a phoneline network from 3Com. One machine is running Win98SE and the other is running WinNT 4.0. I know for a fact that the network hardware itself is working as the light on the back of my phoneline NIC representing a successful link is on. My problem is that my Win98 computer can see itself and the NT computer, but the NT computer can only see itself not the Win98 computer. I need to use IPX/SPX and have enabled NetBIOS over IPX. However I am not to sure how setup my NT system for the network, it's new to me. Does anyone know how I can fix my problem and setup my NT computer for the network.

Unless mandated by the NIC manufacturer, I wouldn't be using IPX. NetBIOS should be sufficient. Just make sure your workgroups are the same and your PC names are unique - then install/enable file/print sharing. That may be enough without getting into WINS.

I would use TCP/IP if I was you. Ive had many problems trying to setup up these kind of networks and Ive found that TCP/IP is the best way seriously.

I recently setup a home network in our apt so me and my two roomies could share the DSL line. My problem is that only one of us can use the DSL at one time and get errors when one of us tries to log on while another is on. Is it problems with the way we hooked up the hub or is it something I need to change in Windows. Thanks!
