Problem starting Task Scheduler service

We have a server running NT 4 server and cannot get the "Task Scheduler" service to start. From Control Panel , Services, does show it as "Automatic" but when you try to start it an Error 0087: Parameter Incorrect occurs. I have deleted all the tasks and tried to recreate them without sucess because of the service not running...Thanks in advance for any help...

Sorry about the delay. I was out of the office, returning today and playing catch-up. In reponse to your questions: 1) The System Log in Event Viewer states: Task Scheduler service Terminated with following error: Parameter is incorrect.
2) The Ctrl, Alt Del brings up the NT Security Window, at this screen I can Lock or logoff, change password or Shut down..
