Yep, no way around it, you have to reinstall NT to become a member server. Best approach.....BACK UP first. You may want to try installing NT member server into the orriginal WINNT directory and see what happens. But if this were an MCSE test question the answer would be reformat the partition containing the system files, install NT member server, and restore files and settings from backup. Hope this helps!

If you installed on FAT
just boot to a disk
blow away WINNT and the start up files
Pagefile.sys
Ntldr
Boot.ini
ntdetect.ini

John,

I believe that you can promote a BDC to a PDC. When you promote a BDC to PDC status the PDC will automatically become a BDC. Shutting down the PDC doesn't make a BDC into a PDC-the BDC will continue to authenticate log on requests and will maintain the security database, but when the PDC comes back on line the BDC will resume Backup status.

That doesn't really answer your question, does it?
That's all I understand, though.

Ernest

Itīs possible to demote a BDC to memberserver! You just need some demotion tool software (but it can be risky, registry-changes). It works!
