I am pretty sure this is not possible . You have to reinstall NT

Yep, no way around it, you have to reinstall NT to become a member server. Best approach.....BACK UP first. You may want to try installing NT member server into the orriginal WINNT directory and see what happens. But if this were an MCSE test question the answer would be reformat the partition containing the system files, install NT member server, and restore files and settings from backup. Hope this helps!
If you installed on FAT just boot to a disk blow away WINNT and the start up files Pagefile.sys Ntldr Boot.ini ntdetect.ini

I believe that you can promote a BDC to a PDC. When you promote a BDC to PDC status the PDC will automatically become a BDC. Shutting down the PDC doesn't make a BDC into a PDC-the BDC will continue to authenticate log on requests and will maintain the security database, but when the PDC comes back on line the BDC will resume Backup status.
That doesn't really answer your question, does it? That's all I understand, though.

Itīs possible to demote a BDC to memberserver! You just need some demotion tool software (but it can be risky, registry-changes). It works!
