Comment:

I have one domain with a PDC and two BCD's. Two out of the three hard drives on the PDC failed, and upon rebooting, the server froze, and is still frozen. If I re-install the server, how do I get it to re-join the domain as a PDC. I couldn't even promote the BDC to a PDC because now there is no PDC (since it's not on-line). I have all the info that was on the PDC backed up. WHAT CAN I DO?

To resolve this behavior, you must delete the trust relationship between the backup domain controller and the domain by performing the following steps:

1) Start User Manager for Domains.

2) Click Policies , and then click Trust Relationships .

3)Remove Trust Relationships for the domain.

4) Start Server Manager.

The domain should be available.

5) Select the backup domain controller to be promoted.

6) Click Computer , and then click Promote to Primary Domain Controller .

Once you have restored the original PDC, add it back to the original domain, and "force" the orginial PDC to a BDC. Then promote the original PDC from BDC status to PDC, and the newer PDC witll automatically be demoted back to BDC status.

Hi,

How would you do this in a Windows 2000 Domain? i.e. if your 2000 PDC failed?

Regards,

Richie.
