Hi, I've been seeing something a little strange here and I wanted to ask here for if someone knows the reason.
I have a PDC and a BDC. Of course, my clients have always validated through the PDC, but since some time ago, they started validating through the BDC (and loading the login scripts from the BDC too).
Of course, I was afraid the PDC wasn't okay but tell you what, if I put the BDC offline, the PDC validates perfectly!.
I tried this by logging a Win2K workstation, and although the BDC was put online again, the computer now logs on using the PDC.So the question is: do the clients have some type of cache that contains the name of the latest DC they used to log on?.
Thanks a lot!
Andrés

Hi,
The logon process or validation process from PDC or BDC:
your workstation log into the nearest server or on the server that respond first.
if your BDC respond first you log on BDC if PDC first you log on PDc.
there is some exception to this rule is:
if you just modified your password or your profile setting. and the replication between the PDC and BDC not yet complete, in this case you log into the PDC.

Well, as I said, clients used to use always the PDC. This happens since I promoted the BDC to PDC for a couple of days and then demoted it back to BDC.
Also, they are physically in the same place, one besides the other and in the same subnet.
More ideas?
Andrés

which controller is used is cached at the local workstation. How to control it... don't know. Never was a issue I had time to pursue. Might do a google search concerning what is cached at the local workstation.

If you are sure that the DC is cached at the local workstations, I´ll consider myself satisfied :). I don´t have any real problem, it´s just a basic doubt.
Thanks!
Andrés
