Comment: Hi, can anyone help..i'm trying to install a PCI modem to my NT machine. The modem was fitted to the machine from new but has never been used. I cannot get NT to recognise the modem. I have installed the drivers but when the system looks for a new modem it only searches coms 1 & 2... The only way I have been told is to load a plug & play version of windows such as 98 so it will find the modem but I would rather not. The machine worked ok with a borrowed external modem...please help this is getting very frustrating!!!

Reply: (edit)Unless you can set the pci modem to com2 and disable the onboard com2 port this is never going to work. external modem is the way to go with nt.

Reply: (edit)as i remember, back to the moment of the modem speed of 9600, there were some jumpers on the int modem board. check whether yours has it or not. in my situation, i had to configure jumper to get it work. from what i know, int modem should not share the com ports with the mainboard. hope this link will bring you some idea http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q161/5/16.asp&NoWebContent=1
