i would like to know about the boot structures of the NT os, and how it differs from OS/2 (NT'S cousin)
why is it that using os/2, one can boot via the boot disks to a command prompt (CMD.EXE) and with NT this is not available?
now considering the 2 OS are technically/Guts wise simmilar, as IBM and Microsoft worked together to make These second generation OS'.
why is this different?
i know win2k has a recovery console, but its just not the same as a command prompt.also what was the reason, if any, for the split into separate directions?
i have seen os/2 and could it be microsoft just gave up on IBM, os/2's interface seems a bit clumsy, in my opinion, in comparison. =)
or was it just microsoft was arrogant =)

Read the section headed:
"A Brief History of NT's Development"
http://www.winntmag.com/Articles/Index.cfm?IssueID=29&ArticleID=2984
If you can contact the author of the article, I'm sure all your questions will be answered.

i don't think they have it totaly right though, they don't talk about IBM being involved with the project, they say NT's development.
NT came out of OS/2, when IBM and Microsoft develped it back in the late 80's early 90's
NT is technically OS/2 (internally guts wise)
