I'm having trouble getting my Onboard soundcard (Cmedia) to work. The only way to do it, is to disable PnP in the BIOS and then set it up, but with PnP disabled in the BIOS, my modem (Motorola SM56) doesn't work. Suggestions highly appreciated!

Fixed it! OK, it took me a while, but I solved the problem (somehow...) I left the BIOS setting to PnP OS=Yes, because that was the only way to get my modem to work. (Still wonder why because every manual states it should be set to "No") I downloaded a special Windows NT PnP driver for the CMI8330 soundchip from the C-media website and installed that after I removed all references to previous (failed) setups from the registry. References to legacy drivers are kept in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root and NOT removed when you remove the corresponding device in the control panel, so you have to do this manually. During installation, two devices were setup for sound playback: Windows Sound System and SB16, wich shared the same interrupt. This caused playback to sound like an old scratchy LP repeating the same passage over and over again. Assigning a different interrupt to one of the devices solved this.
