Subject: NTwks 4.0 logon passwordOS: Nt wks 4.0CPU/Ram: PII 266 - 128mb ram |
Comment: Good afternoon, My father was given a PII running NT wks 4.0 on NTFT... and of course no one has the password nor do we have the installation CD for NT. What are my options?... are there utilities you can recommend me to bypass the NT's logon?... How about an NTFS boot disk (keep in mind I dont have access to the box yet)?... any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance

Reply: (edit)There are utils that would allow you to reset the password; there are workarounds... and they don't all require the CD; the Linux boot-disk routine is one. If you browse/work your way thru the links contained in: http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/33409.html there may be useful routes there (including the Linux boot-disk approach) - and an interesting 'hack...' sysinternals.com - "Locksmith" util - will allow you in and to reset the password; but it's not cheap... (a new OS - '98 etc would be cheaper). Other option - as Jennifer suggests - perhaps start afresh with valid OS etc.

Reply: (edit)Hi, Try this site, read through the liturature,It has the Linux boot disk. Worth a try, http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/T down load the two files . You can also do a search on this site under missing password under the nt forum. Lots of good info. You might be able to find another program that way. Nt was written for security so hacking it is not easy but is possible. Hope this helps. adam

Reply: (edit)Hi, I gave the above file a try. Make sure that you download the rawright file and the bd01022.bin file. Also make sure that you have win zip available for they are in zip file format. once down loaded unzip to desk top and run the rarwrite file. make sure that you have a blank disk in the a drive. It will ask you for a source file input where you place the bin file. your target file is your a:\ file. Once the information is written to the a file place that file in the nt machine and turn it on. It is self explanitory. I tryed it on my nt workstation and it worked. If you have any questions email me. Adam
