Can anyone tell me what the file ntuser.dat does in each of the profiles on my machine? Veritas is having trouble backing that file up - I realize it's not important to back that file up but am curious what it does.

NTuser.dat is each users desktop and registry settings. If that file is deleted, then the next time the user logs on, he gets a copy of the default user settings which will become his new ntuser.dat file. Losing the users ntuser.dat file will mean that all printers the user has added and customization to the desktop settings would be lost and have to be re-created again the next time they logon.
Summary: I know ntuser.dat is for NT profiles. But what exactly is written in this file, as all the data (Desktop, Start Menu,...) is in subfolders. So whats in ntuser.dat and why is it so big in size...
