I use partition magic 5 to partition my HDD, when i select option on my HDD Primary and NTFS and i set the size 3 gig, it came up with the message " this partition crosses the 1024 cylinder boundary and may not be bootable" so any one can help me

Is this on a system that is running or are you preparing to install NT?If you are preparing to do an install set it to 2048 then resize afterward. If its on a running system you will get the 1024cyl. message,we have sized NTFS partitions to 13gig with no problems other than the message about going over cyl. 1024.If you have an OS on the HDD already and it spans past cyl.1024 and you want install NT you will need to use PM to move it to the back of the drive.NT likes to be first.

Why use PM?
How many partitions are on this HD?
How many are ahead of the intended NTFS partition? If the accumulated (used) space ahead of the NTFS NT partition is greater than 4Gig, NT will not boot...
Also the NT boot/start-up files have to be within the first 2Gig of the HD...
A little more info re your HD configuration might be useful...
And these two links might be worth a broswe...
http://www.pcbodega.com.ph/troll3.html
http://www.win.tue.nl/math/dw/personalpages/aeb/linux/partitions/partition_types-2.html
The first defines the 'bootcode' boundary in simple terms.
The second is a long'ish, and later OS specific, discussion on partitions and their limtations... - especially regarding NT...
