Hi,

My system stats are:

Abit BP6 Dual 533 PII Motherboard
20 gig. UDMA66 Diamond Maxtor hard drive
Windows NT Workstation 4.0 SP6a
256 MB RAM
3DFX Voodoo3 3000 Video

I have two partitions:

a 2 Gig. for the NT OS
an 8 Gig. for files/programs

both partitions are in NTFS format.

I notice, upon running *any* installation program and installing the software to D: drive, some directories and files will become corrupted ( at random ).

Sometimes, when running an installation program, I will get a dialog saying "D:\progra~1\Director~1\ directory has become corrupt. Try running CHKDSK to correct the problem.", or something similar to this message.....

The installation will complete fine, but the file structure for other directories of the D: partition will become corrupt.

The C: drive partition has no problems at all.

CHKDSK is able to correct the corrupted portions of the file system on D: drive.

Any Ideas ??

Thanks in advance.

Greg

it's most liekely because your 2nd Partition is over 7.8 gig....
if you install form a DOS system then convert to NTFS you risk NTFS corruption.
Check the MS Knowledge base, i had this issue as well on a few systems.

Yes, Im already one step ahead of you.

I tore out the 8 Gig. Partitition and put in
a 2 Gig. to see if there was improvement.

There is improvment.

However, I still get a few random files
corrupted upon running a setup program (
especially the setup of NT Option Pack 4 ).

I am not losing entire root directories before.

Upon running CHKDSK it finds "Orphaned file
segements".

I'll check the KB. Thanks.
