I want to know how much space I can get by using NTFS compression on a 528mo disk? (something like 540,000,000 octets)

Perhaps 1GO? Can I just compress a single folder, and how much space will it occupy after?

I want to fit a ~510mo set of files onto the disk, in addition to Win NT itself, Office 97 and Acrobat.

Otherwise I will just do a minimal install of the 510mo prog (12mo) or the 1/2 way one (50mo).

sounds like you have been spending too much time studing wan protocols bud. Data is stored in bytes not octets :-)

At best you might get 2:1 compression with some files. Most will compress at 1.2:1

If you are looking for some big gain in available space I would not count too much on that.
