Comment:

When I boot into NT workstation 4, the cd-rom is not recognized in My Computer or Explorer. When I go to Disk Administrator and assign the cd-rom a drive letter, then it is recognized. But after I reboot, the changes are not saved. "Commit changes now" and "save" are grayed out. Any suggestions on how to keep the drive letter mapped?
Thank you.

Make sure that the drive letter that is being assigned on boot is not being used by another device.

Check the properties of the device and make sure that Windows NT is recognizing it on bootup.

Also, check your event viewer and see if there were any problems detecting the device on boot.
