My NT 4.0 Server used to take only 1 minute to shutdown. Now it takes a long time to shutdown (about 10 min.).

The startup is still O.K.

What should I do to correct this problem ?

regular system maintenance including a defrag should take care of it if it is not caused by a specific process. You might look into purchasing a third party tool to do this more efficiently.

I agree with Mike. With the number and size of files growing larger by the day, NTFS is under more pressure to keep storing files contiguously. Making defrag a part of regular system maintenance can lend stability and performance.
