NT4 ws unable to join domain

hi, i need to put my nt4 workstation on the domain. Have requested my IT department to put my pc name onto the domain . But problem is when i change my pc from workgroup to domain, the error is unable to find the domain controller. I can acces the internet and intranet. My It guys confirm my pc name in the domain. Please advice.

Ensure drivers for the nic are current/OK and no irq conficts; ensure correct protocol; ip-info etc. is correct (no mis-types etc.) - i.e. ip address, subnet, gateway, wins-server.

Do you indeed have the proper permissions to add the client to the Domain? Normal Domain users can't do that, unless your IT department had indeed given you that access.
Why not just have the IT people add the client to the Domain?
