NT4 SP1 -> SP6a, cannot login

I installed NT 4, SP 1 from CD successfully...can log in, everything's peachy. I apply the SP6a update, downloaded from Microsoft's site, and now I can't even log in as Administrator, because the netlogon service won't start.
When I installed NT, I told it to not make it part of a network, since it interfered with the host Macintosh's networking (for reasons unknown to me).
