Comment: When i connect this machine running NT 4 Server to the network it takes control of the domain. The machine is a client machine so this is not what i want. I'm guessing it was installed as a PDC i'm not sure and this is where the problem lies. Is there anyway i can get the machine on the network as a client machine without reinstalling the OS as doing so is not an option really.

Reply: (edit)With such a wealth of information... it would be hard to advise. Where did it come from? Why are you putting a server on the network as a client? What do you mean it takes over? Are you bringing this server into an existing domain? You can't have two pdcs in the same domain. Why do you think this is a PdC?

Reply: (edit)In reply to your questions:: The computer is already been used just not on the network. I do not know who are why was NT server installed on a client machine. All i know is that the NT server machine would be connecting to an existing network with an existing NT domain. I'm guessing that the NT machine was installed as a PDC and then this is where the problem arises as there is already a PDC. If i demote the PDC to a BDC will i be able to log on as a client machine??

Reply: (edit)It is not a pdc of your domain so it does not matter how it was installed. It is not participating in domain operations and as such can not be "demoted". Did you make a machine account on the NT PDC for this "workstation"? Server manager/add workstation. There is a product called Upromote [web search will give you the url] that you can use to bring this server into the domain as a bdc or a member server. If you don't have a bdc now it is highly advisable to do this. Or why go thru all this hassle? Why not just reinstall NT?
