um, well, I applied the service pack (6.0a) and during it's install it barked about shell32.dll not being copied correctly, and I, being a complete fool, just skipped the file. when I rebooted, it stoped, and said something about shell32 being a ' bad image ' and said something about a cheaksum error.
I went to repair NT, first phase of setup went smoothly, but when the second phase started, and i selected ' repair ', it stoped, and refused to continue, because it did not detect a cd-rom drive.
I do not want to do a complete re-install, but I do not know how to dig my way out of this one.
please help this damned fool.
oh, btw: it also has a copy of the 95b boot files, with a copy of ms client 3, all installed, and bootable from the boot menu @ startup. the partition is a fat16, and both 95, and nt, are installed on it.

thanks Carl.
sp6i386 with the /x parameter does not like w95 dos mode.
so, i used winzip, and like you said to, i extracted the file to the floppy disk, and then overwrote the shell32.dll file in \winnt\system32 with it.
works now
thank you.
