Comment:

I have a NT4 PDC Server with SP6a.

My users can not log into the domain including the domain admin.
But I can log onto the server locally with the admin with the origional password that I set when I built the server).

Can someone tell me why this has happened.
Also the user accounts have not expired.
Could it be a virus or somthing else.
where can I find further information on this if it is a problem.

Thanx

Check the hardware;
Server NIC
Port the server is plugged into.
Cable the server is using to plug into the port.

The server can ping the clients and the clients can ping the server, right?

Ok, when you log in locally to the server and look in User Manager for Domains, does anything look out of place at all?
Logon Hours?
Lockouts?
Groups?

Try creating a new username and then log into the domain. Do you get the "domain controller not available" message or something else?

One thing you need to check is user manager for domains to see if the users can log in interactively. are you getting this error message that this user cannot log in interactively if so your problem lies under that. Make sure that users can login this domain and their accounts do have access to the domain. If there is router in between the users' workstation and the server. You need to setup LMHOST file if using WINS. HOST file if using DNS...explore the option.

First of all, what has been changed since the last time someone could login.
THat might be the cause of the problem.
Second. Sit down behind a client
Ping your server.
Not: okay check local loop ping 127.x.x.x , check networkcables to server
Yes: we have contact so cables are okay.
Do an IPconfig on the client: Does your client has a proper IP adress still, is the subnetmask okay ??
If not check server IP range and subnetmask or do an IPconfig / renew and check again.
In network settings change domainname into a random workgroupname ; reboot; change the workgroupname into the old domainname again and add clientcomputer to domain; reboot again and try to login again.

Nothing has changed at all to the server.
Everthing is still the same, I can see and ping the server on the network but can not log-in to the system, it says your domain password has expired, but the domain passwords had not been set to expire.

More than anything I want to know could this of happened, could it be data corruption or a virus or somthing else on the server, if so where can I find out more information regarding it.

Regards
Raj
