NT4 logon scripts to update anti virus software to remote users

I'm in an environment where we're using the login script to update the anti-virus software on each machine. The problem is that, when remote users log in, the script takes 20 minutes or more if there's an update that needs to run. We're currently using NT4 with SP4 and the throughput for many of these users is less than 30 kbps. Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed up the script? This is becoming quite an issue since updates seem to come out weekly.

What anti-virus software are you using.
There might be another alternative

We're using Norton. The company I work for has a corporate agreement with them so I don't think there's any flexibility with respect to changing vendors. I'm guessing this must be a problem for other companies' remote users - unless they're just not as concerned about security. Any other ideas?

Are they on a 28.8 line? The Norton anti-virus updates are a couple mbs, which will make users wait that long (20 minutes) to receive all of the norton update download. Norton has a "pull" technology that you can SCHEDULE on off hours to send to the pcs. This is for normal updating. If a critical issue came up where you had to push it, you would still need to use a login script.
