Does anyone know if you can slipstream NT4 with any of the service packs? I know it can be done with W2K and XP but I can't find any info for NT. The method for W2K and XP doesn't work with NT.

We have lots of PC's that still only have an NT licence, and occasionally we have to rebuild them for various reasons. It's a right pain installing if from the bog standard CD then loading the SP. NT is so old!

NT4 service packs contain all that was in previous ones. So SP2 includes SP1, SP4 includes SP1 + SP2 +SP3. So, you only need to apply SP6a and then install IE 5.5SP2 or IE6 SP1 and then do a windowsupdate to bring it all up-to-date.

NT may be old but it's pretty stable, don't knock it, it's better than 95/98/ME.

Maurice, Mark isnt knocking NT, and he wasnt asking if the service packs are cumulative. He was asking about slipstreaming. Slipstreaming refers to installing the NT operating system with the system files from the latest service pack bypassing the system files on the original install disk. And yes it is a pain,Mark, to install the OS, SP 6a, and IE 6. It adds at least an additional 10 to 15 minutes to the install. When you are doing a bunch of installs that time adds up quickly. To answer your question Mark I have often wondered the same and at least for now I have found that it is not possible. If anyone else know if this is possible please reply. Thanks.

The answer here would be to create an image of a perfected load, then modify the security ID for each user.

Dan, doing the same for W2K is just as bad, first install W2K, then IE6.0, then SP3, then the W2K updates from the update site. Still a pain in the A##.

Mark, if you send me your email address I'll email you a self-extracting floppy image that will enable you to boot an NT4 PC ,log on to the LAN and dump an image of the PC to the network and then on other PCs to boot from the floppy and restore the image and change the SID after the image restored.

The boot floppy is set up to work on Dell Optiplex PCs so it expects a 3Com NIC but if you have the DOS drivers for what ever NICs you have it needs a couple of edits to make the disk work on these PCs.
