Comment:

I have an older IBM NT server, running NT4 w/ service pack 6. I went to the microsoft update site and downloaded what seemed to be a lot of security updates. When I restaretd the server all appeared to be normal i.e. splash screen, login screen; however after logging in the screen stays the pale blue and all I see is the curser. The server loads all of its applications but no icons or "normal" widows display - just the pale blue w/ the cursor.

I can pull up the task manager, but cannot end any tasks. The apps and services that start automatically seem to be working.

Any ideas?

The update deactivated the Administrator account. You have to login as an admin with a different username; some other admin of the Administrators group.
