I thought the disk must be sick so i copied it again but got the same message i also tried a new disk and downloaded disk 3 again.

Is it me at fault or is their a problem

download all 3 diskettes again. Onto different floppies or change the BIOS to boot from CD and use the nt4 CD straight.

You can also make a set from the CD:

z:\i386\winnt /ox

is the command from a DOS prompt (via DOS/'9x bootdisk with CDROM support) where z = CDROM

Or boot up (suitable DOS/'9x bootdisk), access the CD, then the i386 and then run:

winnt /ox

/OX means make set of boot floppies that will allow access to the CDROM during NT install.

The command:

c:\i386\winnt /b

requires that the i386 folder be present on the c: drive; i.e. you have to transfer/copy it there (to a formatted area in order to actually be able to transfer it). The transfer can be done via a DOS/'9x bootdisk with CDROM support. The max partition size you can achieve (in advance) this way for c: = 2Gig (fat16); it cannot be reconfigured (to be upto 4Gig max.) during NT setup as NT will be using the i386 present there....

But, you could create a small (250Meg) fat16 C: partition; copy the i386 over; run the setup command winnt /b from there; install NT to Extended partition area; max partition will be 4Gig (fat16/ntfs); balance of drive can be configured later via NT Disk Admin.

Hi.. I get a something similar - when I get to disk 3 it tries to find my HDD and CDROM. It finds the CD but cannot find the HDD and therefore cannot proceed. The HDD has been formatted and works fine cus I have has many OS's running OK on it. My drive is a fujitsu HDD. ANY THOUGHTS....??
