I am trying to connect NT Server to NT work station. I am using Realtek RTL8029 nic cards. After the server boots up I get this message (At least one service or drive failed during system startup in the event viewer I get these two messages Rtl80291 could not find adapter and RTL8029 PCI adapter driver servic failed to start due to the following error-A device attached to the system is not functioning.

You might have a resource conflict. Use the NIC software to verify the IRQ and I/O settings on the cards and then go to the Adapters tab on the Network Properties page and make sure that the IRQ and I/O are set to the same values as the card.

Reinstall the drivers and make sure the adapter is binding with the protocol you installed.

i have realtek cards too - i think the exact same part#. Note: do 2. and 3. below only - if nothing else works: (assume you have sp5, and drwatson and eventviewer are not reporting stuff unrealted to the NIC's):

1. goto the realtek website and download the latest drivers if u haven't already - their site will have .tw at the end of the url - it's in taiwan. download to your desktop & extract the "driver download file" to a floppy - so u can load the drivers from floppy - u have done this already i assume.

2. RESEAT THE CARD IN THE PCI SLOT CLOSEST TO THE AGP SLOT - don't ask me why. That's what did it for me - i tech talked for hrs. w/newsgrps and email. then i opened the boxup and reseated it. it worked after that.

3. FLASH/Upgrade to the latest BIOS - go to your OEM (eg. DELL ect.) file library get it and flash it. or the motherboard's file library -whatever.
