NT, RAS and error 5: "Access is denied"

Hi there!
When I try to connect with RAS (from NT client to NT server), error 5: "Access is Denied" occurs. I found out from Microsoft webpages, that there is a bug in SP4, which will cause the error. Well, the same problem still exists in SP5 and SP6! Only way to solve the problem, is to delete that particular Dial-Up setting and recreate it again. It will work awhile, until it breaks down again. If you have any kind of PERMANENT workaround for this problem, please post it here!

Henri, what kind of authentication are being configure at both end. Try to configure the server and workstation so that they allow any authentication including clear text.In the meantime, make sure you configure your RAS software using the right protocol. Good luck!!

Son, yes, I have figured it out. The problem is, that if I delete the non-working phonebook entry and create *EXACTLY* similar entry, it will work fine for awhile!?! Here is additional info: TCP/IP is being used to connect to service provider (no other protocols is being used). Problem is not dependant of computer or modem I'm using. I have tried with at least 5 different computers and 3 different types of modem. Connection through cellular phone seems to work fine. IMHO, the bug seems to be somewhere in Microsoft's RAS service. Is there any recommended 3rd-party dial-up software for NT??

Make sure you are using the same username and password as when you logged on initially because it caches and will transmitt the cached information. If you are logging in from an ISP its VPN right? not dial up. does your account have rights?

Check out MS KB article Q256509 - says this happens when you put a space in the domain, where the authenticating server does not use the domain for authentication.
