Hello
I am network Engineer at a small firm. The senario is as follows:
We are using an inhouse application using access database which is the central database located in the NT server. The data entry is done to that using a Java client which writes into the databsse file in that central server.
1)There are many people involved in data entry.
2)There is only one person who is responsible for opening the database and doing the editing part.
3)The other people who are in the data entering part often have to open the database for gathering some information.
The database file is password protected in access and all the user have that password.
The problem is that when they open the database to read ,they are very much prone to making some mistake that leads to problems.
Now what i want is that: only the person who is responcible for data editing should have the write permission to the database file and the others should have the read permission.
I can do this by setting the permission in the NT server (where the database resides) according to the job profile ie. write permission for the user who does editing and read permission for the users who need to just refer to the database file , but as soon as i do that , the same users are not able to do data entry since when they are doing that they are actually writing into that database file so they naturally need write permission.

Is there any way (Through access or through NT) i can make this senareo possible.
Thanks

You said you can do this "by setting the permission in the NT server (where the database resides) according to the job profile"...I'm not sure what you mean by that....

Is this the same as giving their NT ACCOUNT the permissions you want them to have...?

Create a local group on the server where the file resides put everyone who needs write permisions in here and assig the file pemisions to this group.
check if there are no duplicate group permisions also.
