CPU/Ram: pentium III
Comment:

I am trying to get 80mb of files off a computer running NT 4.0 service pack 6. That's all.

Here's how I've been thwarted:
-There are no USB ports.
-There is no NIC. When I install one, it doesn't recognize it, and BSOD's on restart, no matter which PCI slot it's in.
-The floppy drive doesn't work.
-The HDD is SCSI so I can't install it in my other PC as a slave.
-I tried installing a CD-RW drive with the NT driver but it failed and now neither CD-ROM drive works.
-BartPE didn't work.
-I can't spend money on parts (boss's orders).

My only remaining thought is to directly connect it via serial cable to another PC. The only ones we have with a serial port are on XP, and I don't know how to set up direct connections.

Any help is appreciated. Remember, it has to be done without CD-ROM, USB, or internet access.

Thanks!

First off you need a "Null Modem Serial Cable" or "Laplink Parallel Port Cable"

Secondly both XP and NT4 include Direct Cable Connection:

Needless to say the DCC is also in the O/S Help Section... as well as good tutorials found by Googling...

Thank you. Somehow this NT installation does not have Direct Cable Connection. It is simply not there in the Windows Components section I'm trying to add.

DCC may not be available read bottom of this page NT4 to NT4:

*NT4 is the base for NT5(W2K) and NT5.1(XP)*

I'd pull the drive and piggy-back it on the XP machine.

You can run both IDE and SCSI drives in the same machine.
