NT memory/ performance optimization

Can you advise me some regular checks that should be done on an NT server so that my OS partition is not out of memory. what all should be removed regularly like a log file ., or *.tmp ,*.bak files ., specially from \winnt folder etc., any comment whould be of help thanks

Generally, you won't want to delete much from the \winnt directory. Provided you haven't built a server on a 500 MB partition there aren't many things "OS wise" that are going to grow. The event logs are generally small and unless you're going to save the print jobs you should be fine. If you load the server down with apps or people are using it for file services, you can run a weekly scan for .tmp or .bak files that are orphaned from word processing sessions or .rip files if you're a Notes user. What is the server going to be used for - how you would treat an app server is different from how you would treat a file and print server

Hello, You need to maximize the virtual memory size up to 250MB, and remove the un-necessary files in the hard disk (.tmp, .bak files).

advice that i picked up in this forum,: move non system files to another partition and then defrag where the os is, then copy back the original files and the partition will show new free space.
