Comment:
I have an old Dell Power Edge Server 2200 (SCSI) that has Win NT 4.0 on it. No one knows the logon password so there it sits. I want to turn this into a simple desktop pc with win 98se. How can I get around this to load win 98se.

I'm not sure why you'd want to take a server and make it into a 98 box, but you should be able to do it by:
1) Put a Win2k, XP or NT CD and boot the machine to the CD. Act like you are installing the OS and get all the way to the "pick a partition" area, and delete all existing partitions.
2) After this is done, you should be able to boot to a DOS boot disk, partition and format the drive, and install 98 on it.

If no XP/W2K/NT CD then use a '98 bootdisk and run Fdisk routine to delete the partition; then reconfigure/reformat for for '98 etc.

Remember that an ntfs area shows up as non-dos in Fdisk inspections.

If there is an Extended partition and it's ntfs then you will need to use something like delpart.exe to remove it (and likewise all other partitions whilst you're at it). Add the util to the '98 bootdisk and run at the a: prompt, following on-screen prompts. Reconfigure/reformat drive afterwards for '98.
